I’m kicking the first tour of Europe by kick scooter, solo, unsupported. I started from France 10 months ago …The adventure is a humanist and athletic quest for the good life at a personal level, as well as an attempt at raising local and global awareness and solidarity. It’s a soft and self-propelled activism, as I consider myself a sort of libertarian vagrant, trying to explore alternatives to the socio-economic dominant patterns and lifestyles. …I’d previously done some cycle touring with other people, but your blog helped give me the confidence to think I could do a cycling trip solo, and I did! Recently I cycled from Bangkok to Krabi (about 1000 km) in Thailand on my own…I’m definitely planning to do a longer solo cycle trip now… I’m thinking of starting in the UK and heading towards Asia. Thanks again – I love your blog!

Louise Sutherland
My pick for favorite WOW, cycling legend Louise Sutherland. Her around the word tour 1956-1962 was only the beginning of her travels by bike. Although she passed away, Cycling Legends, the book about her life is still available internationally. Enjoy this 1978 TV Interview with a legend. Everything Louise talks about is so dialed in to my reality, I cried, laughed and shouted “OMG, you got that right… so true…the world’s still like that…y’ah me too” all the way through this 1978 TV interview.

Martien Deijsselberg
When Martien turned 40, she began going on cycling holidays in Europe. It is the simplicity of life on the road that she loves. While touring, she has never met another solo female cyclist so she reached out to join the fun here on the WOW (Women On Wheels) Wall.
Janka Konarska
People often say Janka must be very brave to go bicycle touring. Janka says “It’s not true, I’m afraid of many things. But there’s nothing wrong with being afraid, as it makes you careful.” When not at home in Warsaw, Poland she is travelling by bike. She has quickly learned that most people are good and would help rather than harm.-Janka : https://www.facebook.com/janka.konarska
Minka Hsieh
My name is Min. I am riding a bike from Germany back to my home in Taiwan. This trip home is not only a challenge, but the pilgrimage of my life. Every person that I meet helps me understand who I am. During this trip, I face myself, my fears, and my dreams. Every day, every step and every person on this journey is one piece to help me solve my very own puzzle- to understand myself better. And this make me feel good. -Min

Anahita Sriprasad
Want’a check out my favorite interviews from the BIG WOW Book? Anahati is seriously hell’a inspiring! “I was traveling around my country when I realized how rare it is for other people to see an Indian woman traveling alone,” 21-year-old Anahita Sriprasad said. It was this thought that laid the groundwork for what would come next. She wanted to raise awareness and promote women’s safety by cycling across India self-supported. From Leh to Kanyakumari, across the provinces of the vast country, she spoke to people about women’s empowerment. Anahita quickly became a role model, reaching national iconic status. I’m definitely not the only one who finds her remarkable adventure inspiring. I met Anahita through Twitter when the government’s Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh celebrated her success.

Angela Zheng
My name is Angela and I’ve just started solo touring the world. I’ve done some short tours in my home country, Australia, and have just finished circumnavigating the big island of Hawaii. I’ve got big plans to tour New Zealand, Cuba, India and Australia in the near future. I tour solo because it puts me back in touch with myself and with the world around me. It’s a challenge and I love the feeling of adventure. I also do it for the environment and for women all over the world, to show everyone that we can kick ass too. But mostly, I do it because I love it, and it’s a great feeling to love what you do.

Vida Juliet Vivie
“We have come a long way to help the growth of female cycling in my country, Ghana. The purpose of celebrating of the anniversary of my bicycle tour of Ghana in 1990 is to prove evidence that female riding bicycles will not be harmful. Parents in Ghana never allowed their female child to ride a bicycle. There is a saying if you want to have a baby don’t ride a bicycle. There are a lot of discouraging messages. Female cycling is not recognized. I believe our yearly celebration will break that gap. Each year we celebrate by teaching girls riding skills, repair, maintenance and safety” Juliet Vida Julie
Special note: Please get in touch if you happen to be touring in Ghana and would like to participate in the yearly celebration that happens in April. Juliet mentioned to me that they love it when bicycle tourist stop by to speak to the community about their bicycle travels.
